Description
A version of Hasui's meisho-e treatment of the Senon Temple on Chii Mountain in Korea, this print captures the monastic architecture set within densely wooded mountain terrain. The Korean temple's distinctive bracketed roofs and stone gate structures are rendered in careful detail against slopes likely shown in seasonal foliage. Hasui's compositional approach here mirrors his Japanese temple studies, using the architecture as a focal anchor while the surrounding landscape establishes mood and season. Bokashi shading in the sky and tree masses creates tonal recession. As one of multiple recorded states of this composition, it may differ from related editions in the depth of ink application or the rendering of atmospheric haze across the distant ridgeline.
