Description
A third recorded impression variant of Hasui's Lake Tazawa shrine subject, this woodblock print shares its source design with related impressions catalogued under the same title. Lake Tazawa sits at roughly 250 meters elevation in the mountains of Akita Prefecture, and Hasui visited the Tohoku region on multiple sketching tours during the 1920s and 1930s. The oban-format composition likely positions the shrine's torii or hall against the open expanse of the lake, using the reflection to double the architectural silhouette. Differences from other impressions may appear in the density of the sky block, the coloring of the forested hillside, or the handling of mist over the water—details that distinguish separate print runs in the Watanabe catalogue.
