River, lake, and coastal scenes form the largest single category in Hasui's output — steady, popular subjects with consistent demand. Value is driven primarily by edition period (pre-war vs. postwar lifetime vs. posthumous), condition, and the presence of seasonal atmospheric effects. Night and rain variants of water scenes command 20–40% premiums over comparable daytime views.
Kuri Ferry at Funabori (alternate version, undated), depicts the same Funabori ferry crossing as the May 1932 dated composition — the flat-bottomed rope ferry across the Naka River at this eastern Tokyo district — in a second version that may represent a different season, weather condition, or compositional approach. The undated version and the dated May 1932 version together represent Hasui's thorough documentation of this working river-crossing that was one of the last such traditional ferries operating within what was becoming metropolitan Tokyo. The Boats & Ships tag indicates the ferry's compositional centrality.
