River, lake, and coastal scenes form the largest single category in Hasui's output — steady, popular subjects with consistent demand. Value is driven primarily by edition period (pre-war vs. postwar lifetime vs. posthumous), condition, and the presence of seasonal atmospheric effects. Night and rain variants of water scenes command 20–40% premiums over comparable daytime views.
Lake Kawaguchi at Oishi, undated (circa 1942), depicts the Oishi shore of Lake Kawaguchi — the small hamlet on the northern shoreline where the most celebrated Fuji-reflection view is traditionally obtained — under the conditions of a particular season or weather. The Oishi vantage gives the classic straight-on view of Fuji's reflection across the lake's full width, and Hasui's circa 1942 treatment brings his late-middle-career atmospheric technique to this most-depicted of the Five Lakes compositions. The Rivers & Lakes and [Bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) tags indicate the composition's atmospheric qualities.
