Description

Ogi Harbor, on the southern coast of Sado Island, was the main port of entry for travelers arriving from the Noto Peninsula. The harbor's distinctive curved bay, fishing vessels at anchor, and the low silhouette of surrounding hills provided Hasui with a compact coastal composition. Ogi was also known for the tarai-bune—round wooden tub boats used by local fisherwomen—and these may appear as incidental figures in the foreground. The print likely presents the harbor at dawn, dusk, or under grey overcast, with the water's surface reflecting sky color through carefully registered bokashi passes. The muted blues, greys, and warm ochres of Hasui's coastal palette reinforce the island's quiet, peripheral character. This impression is a variant or later printing of the Ogi Harbor subject relative to other recorded impressions of the same scene.
