Description
A third recorded treatment of Okada harbor on Izu Ōshima, this print reflects Hasui's practice of revisiting productive subjects across different conditions or print runs. The island's maritime setting invited seasonal variation: rough winter swells, summer haze, or the clear skies of autumn each produced fundamentally different atmospheric states that Hasui could render through adjustments in color palette and bokashi gradation. This version likely shares its basic compositional structure with other Okada prints while differing in the handling of water, sky color, or the placement of vessels and figures. Collectors and scholars distinguish between variant states by examining colophons, publisher seals, and the registration of color blocks, all of which shifted across the decades of Hasui's active career.
