Zojoji Temple in Shiba is Hasui's single most recognized subject. Non-snow versions of this temple (Great Gate at Shiba, pond views) remain highly collectible and trade at lower premiums than the iconic snow scene but still outperform most comparable Hasui subjects. Pre-war lifetime editions with the Watanabe seal attract the strongest bidding. Pre-war lifetime editions bearing the Watanabe copyright seal (A through G types, 1926–1944) are the most desirable.
Onshi Park in Shiba, published in 1937, depicts the former imperial garden (onshi koen — "granted park") in the Shiba district of Tokyo, opened to the public in 1873 and containing the ancient Zojoji temple and the Tokugawa family mausolea. The park's combination of European-style promenades, the towering red-lacquered Zojoji temple gate, ancient pine and zelkova trees, and the visible Tokyo Tower hill gave Shiba park a layered historical atmosphere in the late 1930s. The [oban](/glossary/oban) format gives the composition room for the park's spacious plantings and the architectural presence of its temple structures.
