Description
This print depicts Yagumobashi Bridge near Nagata Shrine (Nagata Jinja) in Kobe's Nagata ward. Nagata Jinja is one of the three major shrines of Kobe, founded in the first century according to shrine tradition, and the bridge spans a waterway within or adjacent to the shrine precinct. Hasui traveled extensively to gather sketches for his landscape series, and this image reflects his documentation of regional sites beyond Tokyo. The composition likely shows the arched bridge under a mantle of snow, with the shrine's architectural elements or torii visible in the background. The snow-covered water edge and stone bridge parapet create horizontal bands that Hasui used to organize space in many of his winter river compositions. Printed in oban format on dampened washi.
