Description
A third impression variant of Hasui's Lake Tago composition at Tagonoura, this print records another production state of the classical meisho-e subject depicting the Suruga Bay shore and its celebrated view of Mount Fuji. The accumulation of three impression variants for this location reflects the site's popularity and the commercial demand for prints depicting it within Hasui's regional series. This impression may differ from the primary and secondary states in the handling of light on the water, the definition of foreground detail such as reeds or shoreline vegetation, or the tonal balance of the sky. Taken together, the three variants of this composition offer insight into the colorist practices and block maintenance procedures at the Watanabe Shozaburo workshop over the course of the series' print run.
