Key value factors: As self-carved and self-printed works, sosaku-hanga value is tied to the artist's reputation and edition size. Larger formats, earlier editions, and historically significant works command the highest prices.
Daisen (大山), the highest peak in the Chugoku region of western Honshu, is viewed here from a distance — the mountain's broad, forested bulk visible across the plains of Hoki Province (modern Tottori Prefecture). Daisen's wide, gentle profile, so different from the sharp volcanic cone of Fuji, gave Kazuma a different formal challenge: how to render a mountain that spreads rather than points, whose presence is one of mass and breadth rather than dramatic silhouette. The distant view emphasizes the mountain's relationship to the surrounding landscape rather than its own internal drama.
