Description
The fall of Pyeongyang in September 1894 — one of the most decisive early victories of the First Sino-Japanese War — is celebrated in this martial print as a song of triumph. The Japanese forces' capture of the Korean capital from Qing defenders was achieved in a coordinated assault from multiple directions, and Kiyochika's composition conveys the euphoric aftermath with soldiers cheering amid the captured city. The "victory song" subtitle frames the print as a commemorative celebration rather than a battle document.
