Mount Fuji seen from Edobashi at twilight — the great peak turning from gold to silhouette against an afterglow sky — forms one of Kiyochika's most compositionally spare Fuji subjects. Edobashi, a bridge over the Nihonbashi River in the heart of the commercial district, provided a western sightline toward the mountain through the urban sprawl, the Fuji silhouette framed by rooftops and the bridge arch. The dusk light — neither day nor night — was the liminal hour Kiyochika explored throughout his Tokyo meisho career.
