"Celebration Amid Autumn Leaves" (紅葉賀, Momiji no Ga) is Chapter 7 of The Tale of Genji, in which the young Genji performs the "Autumn Leaves" dance at the imperial palace's autumn festival, dazzling all who observe him with his beauty and grace. Maeda Masao's illustration for this celebrated chapter captures the festive atmosphere of the court performance through his pattern-based decorative compositional language, the crimson and gold of the autumn leaves motif providing a natural complement to the chapter's theme of theatrical display and aristocratic beauty.
