$500–$4,000. Common landscapes: $500–$1,500. Key value factors: Maeda Masao's atmospheric mountain and landscape prints have a dedicated following among sosaku-hanga collectors.
Yugiri — both the name of Prince Yugiri, Genji's son and one of the novel's secondary heroes, and the title of Chapter 39 depicting his love for Ochiba no Miya — is rendered here as a standalone print subject rather than a formal chapter illustration. The "evening mist" imagery of Yugiri's name and chapter title gave Maeda Masao a subject rich in poetic atmosphere, the misty Uji landscape and the complicated emotional situation of the chapter's characters providing material for a composition that combined the natural and psychological dimensions of the Genji world.
