$300–$2,500. Common landscapes: $300–$800. Key value factors: Okumura's atmospheric landscape prints are modestly priced. Mountain and lake scenes are most sought after.
Mount Fuji viewed from Suou (an older name for the area around present-day Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Honshu) presents an unusual vantage point, as the sacred mountain is typically depicted from much closer locations along the Tokaido road or from the Fuji Five Lakes. If the title refers to a distant western prospect, the print would show Fuji as a small but commanding presence on a far horizon, which is a less common compositional strategy than the close-up treatments favored by Hokusai and Hasui. Koichi may also be working with a regional place name closer to the mountain. Either way, the oban woodblock print places Fuji within a broader landscape context, surrounded by intervening terrain that emphasizes the mountain's visibility across vast distances, a quality that has made it a national symbol.
