"Objet No. 2" of 1954, executed in woodblock-and-object print technique, physically incorporates a found object into the printing surface — the object's own texture and form leaving direct impression on the paper alongside the carved woodblock marks. This technique was among Onchi's most radical formal innovations: the print as a direct material record of an encounter between found object and printing surface, the artwork's making process inscribed in its final form. The object itself becomes invisible in its physical form while remaining permanently present as impression.
