Description
Wall of Kyoto (B) from 1960 completes the pair of wall compositions, the (B) variant offering a different section of Kyoto's characteristic boundary surfaces—perhaps a different material, a different light condition, or a different relationship between the wall and the space behind it. Together the two Wall of Kyoto prints constitute a meditation on the city's most fundamental architectural element: the surface that defines space without revealing it, the boundary between private depth and public face.
