$1,000–$15,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Kasamatsu's early shin-hanga works (pre-1955) tend to be more valued than his later sosaku-hanga production.
The harbor town of Shiogama near Sendai glows in evening light, its docks and fishing boats rendered in the warm palette of dusk as lanterns begin to appear along the waterfront. Shiogama was one of Japan's largest fishing ports and an important staging point for boats heading to the island scenery of Matsushima Bay, which Kasamatsu also depicted. The evening setting allows him to dissolve architectural detail into atmospheric color, his characteristic approach to coastal towns at the end of the working day.
