Typical Price
$1,000–$15,000. Common landscapes: $1,000–$3,000. Key value factors: Kasamatsu's early shin-hanga works (pre-1955) tend to be more valued than his later sosaku-hanga production.
Description
Cape Inubo at Choshi, the easternmost point of Chiba Prefecture where the Tone River meets the Pacific Ocean, presents a dramatic headland of sheer cliffs battered by the open sea. The lighthouse at Inubozaki — one of Japan's oldest Western-style lighthouses — stands above the surf-pounded rocks. Kasamatsu captures the raw power of this coastline, where Pacific swells arrive unbroken from the open ocean and the constant wind shapes the few pines that cling to the clifftop.
