$1,000–$15,000. Common landscapes: $1,000–$3,000. Key value factors: Kasamatsu's early shin-hanga works (pre-1955) tend to be more valued than his later sosaku-hanga production.
A steep hillside street in Yatozaka, Yokohama — the port city's characteristic western-facing residential slopes where foreign residents settled in the Meiji period — descends through a neighborhood of mixed Japanese and Western architecture. Yokohama developed a distinctive visual culture in the decades after Japan's opening, and its hillside districts combined traditional Japanese urban form with Western elements in ways that fascinated artists. Kasamatsu captures the particular character of these slopes: the angled streets, the mixed building types, the view out toward the harbor.
