Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
Inatori Bay on the Izu Peninsula opens to the Pacific with a warmth unusual for Japan's Pacific coast — the Kuroshio current keeps it mild year-round, and the bay's fishermen worked both inshore and offshore grounds. Shotei's 1926 [oban](/glossary/oban) treatment renders the bay in blue water and open sky, the fishing vessels at work in the foreground while the Pacific horizon expands behind them. The Izu Peninsula's combination of hot springs, dramatic coastline, and fertile fishing grounds made it one of the most visited regions in the greater Tokyo area.
