Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
Lake Motosu, the deepest and clearest of the Fuji Five Lakes, offers views of Fuji's southern face with none of the tourist development that crowds Kawaguchi or Yamanaka. The lake's exceptional water clarity made it a preferred location for discerning Fuji viewers, and the particular atmospheric conditions around the lake — frequent mist in early morning, remarkable clarity on calm days — gave its Fuji views a quality distinct from the other lakes. Shotei renders the lake's quiet surface and the mountain above with characteristic atmospheric sensitivity.
