Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
The Otome Mountain Pass (Otome-toge) on the Fuji-Hakone border offers dramatic views of Mount Fuji's northeastern face across the Ashigara plain. The pass, a high crossing between the Izu and Kanto sides of the mountains, was well known for its sudden revelation of Fuji's profile as travelers crested the ridge. Shotei renders the mountain as seen from the pass, the foreground of mountain vegetation giving way to the sweep of open sky above Fuji's cone, the [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) treatment capturing the quality of light at high elevation.
