Shotei's landscapes are his most widely available works. Signed lifetime editions with strong color and condition represent good collector value. Post-earthquake reprints lacking signatures and seals are common and trade at lower prices.
The Ayase River in northeastern Tokyo receives its winter covering of snow in this composition — the river's dark surface contrasting with the white-laden banks on either side, the trees and bridge structures bearing their own accumulations. Shotei renders the snow on the Ayase with particular attention to the way river ice, accumulated river-bank snow, and the open water of the channel created a tripartite composition: white, dark water, white again. The Japanese title frames this as a specific snow-on-river composition within a classical tradition.
