Description

His career spanned the extraordinary social transformations of the Taisho and early Showa periods in Japan — the rise of mass media, the great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, Japan's increasing militarism — and his prints document the landscapes and urban spaces of this period with the attentiveness of a poet-artist for whom observation was a form of ethical practice.
