A print from the Meiji period (circa 1890s) depicting a woman with chrysanthemums — one of Chikanobu's several images combining bijin subjects with the chrysanthemum motif that was so significant in Japanese imperial and seasonal culture. Multiple impressions and versions of popular subjects were common in Meiji printmaking, where successful designs were reprinted to meet demand, and the existence of related chrysanthemum bijin prints in his work reflects both the subject's commercial appeal and his own interest in it.
