Koitsu's daytime landscapes and non-nocturnal scenes are less common on the primary market but still reflect his mastery of atmosphere and color. Values have risen steadily over the past decade.
Asakusa Kinryuzan — the popular name for Senso-ji temple — was the beating heart of Tokyo's old Shitamachi entertainment district, its Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and Nakamise shopping arcade drawing millions of visitors each year. Koitsu renders the temple complex with the layered depth he brought to all his Tokyo scenes, the great lantern and gate structure framing the pagoda beyond. The image preserves an Asakusa that the firebombing of 1945 would largely destroy.
