Koitsu's daytime landscapes and non-nocturnal scenes are less common on the primary market but still reflect his mastery of atmosphere and color. Values have risen steadily over the past decade.
The five-tiered pagoda at Nikko is rendered here in the bright, unambiguous daylight of a clear sky — a compositional choice that emphasizes the structure's architectural grandeur rather than the atmospheric effects Koitsu typically favored. Created around 1928–1930, this version of the famous subject contrasts with darker treatments, showing the pagoda's intricate bracket-work and lacquered surfaces in full color. The bright sky version exists in dialogue with Koitsu's more atmospheric night and rain treatments of the same architectural subjects.
