Description
Morigasaki Coast (Morigasaki kaigan) appears in this 1920 oban print — one of Koitsu's early large-format works — as a vigorous coastal scene, the rocky promontory battered by surf under a sky that may be clear or stormy. The 1920 date places this firmly in the early shin-hanga period, before Koitsu had fully developed his signature atmospheric style, and the oban format indicates a more formal presentation than his later standard prints. The work shows his starting point before the mature atmospheric language of his 1930s masterpieces.
