Koitsu's daytime landscapes and non-nocturnal scenes are less common on the primary market but still reflect his mastery of atmosphere and color. Values have risen steadily over the past decade.
Tomonotsu, the historic port town at the eastern entrance to the Onomichi Strait on the Inland Sea, offered one of the finest sunset views on a coastline famous for dramatic light. Koitsu's 1940 print concentrates the warm amber and crimson tones of the dying sun on the still harbor water, where fishing vessels and transport boats ride at anchor in their own elongated reflections. The Inland Sea's calm, island-dotted geography created a landscape uniquely suited to Koitsu's atmospheric light effects.
