Description

A single woman is seen from behind, seated and leaning back on one arm with her legs tucked to the side, her body angled diagonally across an otherwise empty composition. She wears a pale green kimono patterned with darker green motifs and a red under-layer visible at the collar and hem, with black hair swept up and pinned; a column of calligraphy and a red seal appear at left. The background is a soft, unbroken wash of cream and grey tones with no setting details, giving the scene a quiet, spare mood. Nihonga on silk, by Uemura Shoen, titled *Scene of the Renowned Geisha Takao*.
