Figure in White (Shiroi zo) presents a human form rendered primarily in white—the color of snow, of winter, of the high altitude environments that Azechi inhabited in imagination and reality. The white figure against a contrasting ground challenges his typical relationship of dark figure against light ground, reversing the compositional logic to create a presence defined by what it withholds from darkness rather than what it claims from light.
