Description
A Greek nude and a Tang dynasty flying horse — "Rafu to Temma" — occupy the same pictorial space in a cross-cultural dialogue between Western classical figuration and Chinese ceramic art. Hiratsuka juxtaposes the idealized human body of Greco-Roman tradition with the vigorous naturalism of Tang funerary sculpture. The 1974 woodblock reflects his lifelong interest in connections across Asian and Western aesthetic traditions.
