Description
The Kinugawa hot spring resort in Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo, is here rendered under moonlight — the thermal town's illuminated buildings reflected in the river below. Hiratsuka's 1940 woodblock combines the moonlight subject with a nude figure in the foreground, perhaps bathing in the outdoor thermal waters. The combination of landscape, moonlight, and the nude body is unusual in his oeuvre.
