Description
A nude figure — "Rafu," the Japanese term for an unclothed figure in art — rendered in Hiratsuka's direct woodblock style. The 1967 print belongs to his Washington-period figure studies, when he returned intermittently to the nude subject between his architectural documentation work. His woodblock approach to the figure is bold and economical, avoiding the softened eroticism of ukiyo-e convention.
