Description

At Katada on the western shore of Lake Biwa, wild geese descend at dusk to roost among the flooded rice paddies and reeds. This print from the "Eight Views of Omi" series — corresponding to the "descending geese" scene (rakugan) of the classical Eight Views schema — shows the birds in formation against a pale evening sky, the lake's broad surface and the distant Hira mountains framing the scene.
