Description

On summer evenings, Kyoto residents gathered on the wide stone embankments along the Kamo River at Shijo to catch the cool breeze off the water. This oban print from the "Famous Places in Kyoto" series shows the seasonal yusuzumi ritual: families seated on mats, vendors moving through the crowd, and the lantern-lit facades of the teahouses on the opposite bank reflected in the river below.
