Description
A bird's-eye perspective looking down over a forest canopy, as though the viewer is suspended in air above the treetops. Waichi Hayashi shifts from the ground-level vantage typical of forest scenes to an aerial viewpoint that transforms familiar woodland into abstract pattern—an undulating surface of greens, shadows, and occasional clearings. The title suggests the experience of flight itself, the exhilarating disorientation of seeing a known landscape from an impossible angle. Hayashi's woodblock carving translates the forest canopy's texture into rhythmic repetitions of leaf-cluster forms, each one slightly different, accumulating into a living, breathing surface.
