Description
A celebration of verdant growth, titled with the Japanese characters for "green splendor." Waichi Hayashi dedicates this oban print to the pure visual pleasure of abundant foliage at its peak—leaves fully unfurled, chlorophyll saturating every surface, the whole vegetable world radiating photosynthetic energy. The woodblock medium, with its water-based pigments, is particularly suited to rendering the translucent quality of green leaves backlit by sun. Hayashi builds his greens through multiple printing passes, layering warm and cool tones to avoid the flatness that a single green ink application would produce. The result vibrates with organic vitality.
