Description
Morning mist lies across a lakeside scene where a torii gate stands half-dissolved in the haze, its red pillars emerging from the white atmosphere as a ghost of architecture in this print by Yuhan Ito. The torii at the water's edge — evoking Miyajima's famous floating gate though possibly depicting another site — creates the print's central tension between the solidity of the sacred marker and the dissolving unreality of the mist. Ito was drawn repeatedly to these early-morning liminal states where landscape becomes atmosphere.
