$400–$3,000. Common subjects: $400–$1,000. Key value factors: Okuyama's prints are relatively affordable. Bold, well-preserved examples are most valued.
"Buddha" presents a sacred image — likely one of the great outdoor or hall Buddhas of Japan's ancient temple complexes — with the respectful directness Okuyama brought to all his depictions of Japan's sacred monuments. Whether depicting the Kamakura Daibutsu, a hall image at Nara, or a provincial temple figure, Okuyama's Buddhas are treated as aesthetic and spiritual presences rather than merely architectural features. His sosaku-hanga approach — carving and printing the image himself — gave him particular authority over the image's visual weight and devotional character.
