$400–$3,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Okuyama's prints are relatively affordable. Bold, well-preserved examples are most valued.
"Snow at the Power Generator" (Oka Shikanosuke; Yuki no Hatsudensho) is an unusual hybrid subject: a modern industrial facility — a power generation plant or hydroelectric dam — rendered under snow, the contrast between the technological infrastructure of modern Japan and the ancient elemental forces of winter creating a visual and conceptual tension. The attribution to "Oka Shikanosuke" in the Japanese subtitle may refer to the location of the power station or a local name associated with it. Okuyama's treatment of this industrial-natural subject extends his sosaku-hanga practice into documentary territory.
