$400–$3,000. Snow and night scenes tend to command premium prices for this artist. Key value factors: Okuyama's prints are relatively affordable. Bold, well-preserved examples are most valued.
"Snow Scene" is a general winter landscape — snow over an unspecified Japanese setting — rendered through Okuyama's careful observational approach to the seasonal transformation of familiar subjects. Snow gave Okuyama access to the spare, concentrated compositional language that he associated with his northern upbringing in Yamagata Prefecture, where winter was a dominant seasonal experience rather than an occasional visitor. The simplified palette and formal clarity of a snow scene connected his personal experience to the broader tradition of Japanese winter landscape art.
