Description

A close-up frontal portrait of a young woman with an elaborately piled, rounded coiffure, her eyes downcast and lips closed in a neutral expression. Rendered in warm sepia ink with pencil underdrawing, the figure wears a kimono with faintly sketched floral and striped patterning against a plain, softly toned background. A small red seal mark appears in the lower left corner. Hashiguchi Goyō, *Portrait of a Beauty*, 1911, sepia ink and pencil on paper.
