Goyo completed only 14 woodblock print designs before his death in 1921, making every genuine impression extraordinarily rare. His bijin-ga are among the most refined of the entire shin-hanga movement. "Woman at the Bath" achieved $40,075 at Bonhams New York in 2020; Sotheby's estimates of $15,000–$25,000 are typical for top examples.
A young woman in summer kimono — "natsu yosoi no musume" — from 1920, the lightweight summer garment creating the particular combination of transparency and drape that Goyo found most compositionally interesting among seasonal kimono. The "young woman" (musume) designation suggests an unmarried figure in the light clothing appropriate to the summer season, her casual, comfortable posture conveying the ease of youth in warm weather. The bijin-ga and summer tags confirm the work's participation in the seasonal beautiful-women tradition.
