$500–$8,000. Common later works: $500–$2,000. Key value factors: Hagiwara's abstract works are collected by both Japanese print and modern art collectors.
The Outdoor Theater at Mount Fuji (1998) — created when Hagiwara was 85 years old — rendered the outdoor performance venues that had been established on the slopes and foothills of the mountain for summer concerts and theatrical events. The juxtaposition of classical Japanese performing arts with the eternal presence of the mountain behind the stage created an image of cultural continuity: ancient art forms set against the most ancient of Japanese landscapes. Hagiwara's treatment used the mountain as both backdrop and witness to the human cultural activity performed before it.
