Description
This woodblock print is attributed to a collaborative or anthology project involving multiple printmakers. Such group publications were common in the sosaku-hanga movement, where artists organized collective portfolios and exchange print societies (hanga kurabu) to promote the creative print ideal and share their work with fellow practitioners and collectors. Hakutei, as one of the movement's founders and elder statesmen, frequently participated in these collaborative ventures, lending his reputation and contributing prints alongside younger artists. The collaborative format reflects the communal spirit of sosaku-hanga, which despite its emphasis on individual artistic authorship fostered a strong sense of collective identity and mutual support among its members.
