Edosaki, a suigo town in Ibaraki Prefecture, was threaded by canals and rivers that made it a recurring subject for [shin-hanga](/glossary/shin-hanga) artists drawn to reflective water surfaces and riverside architecture. This [meisho-e](/glossary/meisho-e) records the town in autumn, a season signaled by the warm ochre and rust tones of foliage rendered through multiple impression blocks, with [bokashi](/glossary/bokashi) gradations softening transitions between water, sky, and land. Low wooden structures and boat landings characteristic of the suigo landscape would line the riverbank, their reflections broken by the movement of shallow water. This impression may represent a distinct printing state or edition variant from the related composition bearing the same title, differing in block registration, color mixing, or the inclusion of seasonal staffage. The horizontal or vertical framing typical of waterway subjects channels the viewer's eye along the canal toward a vanishing point in mist or open sky.
