Description
An unidentified composition from Ishiwata Koitsu's woodblock print production, rendered in the atmospheric style that earned the shin-hanga movement its international following. Ishiwata was drawn to transitional moments — the hour before dawn, the fall of evening, the first snow of winter — when familiar landscapes were transformed by light and weather into something mysterious and beautiful. This print captures one such moment, the specific location and subject undocumented but the atmospheric quality characteristic of his mature work.
