Description
This untitled work from Ishiwata Koitsu's oeuvre reflects the atmospheric and compositional sensibilities he developed over a career devoted to landscape and urban subjects in the shin-hanga manner. Ishiwata's prints were collected by a significant number of Western buyers during the interwar period, when shin-hanga landscapes were actively marketed to foreign collectors through print dealers in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Yokohama, and the atmospheric quality of his work translated well across cultural boundaries.
